RJR is proud to announce new designer SUE BEEVERS

MEET THE DESIGNER...
Sue Beevers

The last 30-plus years of Sue Beevers' life have been spent immersed in the fiber world, first as a spinner, weaver, & a dyer, and now as a fabric painter & quilter. She has traveled extensively, giving lectures & workshops to teach weaving, spinning & dyeing throughout the United States and at major fiber conferences. Her work is featured in collections in the United States, Europe & Japan.

Sue first began painting fabric that she had woven herself. Painting proved such an interesting visual, she was concentrating less on the weaving and more on the painting. Now, she paints almost exclusively on commercially made fabrics. Many of her pieces have been matted & framed, as to be viewed as works of art.

Painted fabrics led Sue to discover quilting, an art form she approaches much the same way she does a collage. Other artists use Sue's painted fabrics to express their own, sometimes very different, design visions, an extension that Sue finds fascinating.

Sue is author of Off-the-Shelf Fabric Painting from C&T Publishing, demonstrating her renowned fabric painting techniques. The book was one of C&T's best-selling titles – in fact, C&T completely sold out of it.

Off the Shelf Fabric Painting

As a quilter, Sue makes art quilts, but she loves traditional quilts as well. She's also fascinated by the myriad of possibilities presented by geometric design. To marry these interests, she's working on a book of contemporary geometric quilts, each of which incorporates traditional quilt aesthetics.

With Daylily Fields, Sue's first printed fabric collection, she approached each print from two angles - as a fabric painter, working to emulate techniques she uses when hand-painting, and as a quilter, making every effort to provide a variety of scale, value, texture and even mirror-images for interesting effects in quilt designs, as well as versatility in crossover between the colorways and packed multicolor distribution within the prints to cut up beautifully.

DESIGNER'S INSPIRATIONS

"I designed this collection, incorporating the elements I would want to use in a quilt design of my own. I included large-scale multicolors for dramatic effects and textured tonals with lots of visual interest for backgrounds. I can't always find what I'm looking for in quilt fabric, so I used to paint them, but when I got the chance to design this printed collection, I was sure to create them with those specific needs in mind."

Sue designed this line with specific quilt designs in mind. RJR will be offering the patterns for free download from the RJR website (www.rjrfabrics.com), as well as fabric kits for these quilts.
